Job Description:
The Senior Network Engineer designs and builds complex enterprise-class communication and network systems to meet specific business line requirements based on current standards as well as communication and network systems to support larger infrastructure projects that add new capabilities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains scripts to facilitate network administrative tasks and automate repetitive processes Leads teams to conduct the technical analysis of current networks
- Architect and design all networking equipment including, but not limited to load balancers, firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Evaluates new and emerging technologies
- Participate in Industry standards and research groups as Ameren representative
- Define, document and maintain communications design principles, policies and standards
- Architect and design networking technologies and systems including MPLS, fiber optic communications, QoS, SNMP, VoIP, PoE, routing protocols, firewalls, structured cabling, in-building cellular antenna systems, etc.
- Communicate with suppliers to develop solutions to meet the internal customer’s needs
- Architect and design IP networks for LAN, WAN, and WiFi
- Writes requirements documents for evaluation of new hardware/software
- Installs complex hardware, systems and software for network and/or security components
- Develop short and long-range strategic plans for network architecture and design which links to broader digital objectives across the digital/IT organization
- Recommends solutions that address the user satisfaction and business needs of the organization
- Work with other Network Engineers and Architects, as well other business unit personnel that support the corporate networks and the electrical grid, gas operations, and other corporate efforts
- Follow ITIL practices around incident, problem, change management, configuration, and knowledge management
- Serve as a subject matter expert for designing and building complex enterprise-class networks, ensuring that systems are designed to work securely, effectively, and efficiently, and fulfill the business requirements.
- Work with other project teams and project managers to implement secure, effective network solutions
- Communicate with internal customers to understand their system requirements for various communications and network systems
Job Requirements:
- Detailed knowledge of the planning, design, implementation and troubleshooting of network systems
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in engineering, mathematics, computer science or business
- Detailed knowledge of waterfall and agile project management processes, tools and techniques
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Consideration will be given to candidates with nine or more years of relevant experience in lieu of the degree requirement.
- In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Detailed understanding of routing and switching technology, IP, and signaling
- Detailed knowledge of industry trends and products
- Detailed knowledge of ITIL framework
