Job Description:
An opportunity has arisen within the Belfast legal department for an experienced legal professional to help support the Trade legal team. The Trade business within Citi is a part of the wider Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS) group.
Job Responsibilities:
- Act as a close liaison with internal businesses and the various functions in connection with the negotiation of legal agreements in the TTS business.
- Production of amended agreements for the counterparty/customer’s execution. Assist in initiatives to help rationalise/streamline our internal processes and documentation (e.g. the development of new documentation or updates to our existing documents).
- Advising risk, product and relationship managers on potential legal risks involved in changing documentation.
- Ensuring Citibank’s regulatory policies are maintained and where deviations are necessary, ensuring appropriate risk and / or business approval is obtained.
- Reviewing and negotiating product agreements with internal/external customers to reach agreement on the contents of Citi’s legal documentation, through telephonic or electronic negotiation (via conference calls, VCs, email exchanges).
- New technology solutions; act as a partner to the Trade business to explore applicable tech solutions in the legal space; e.g. DocuSign.
- Understand Citi’s documentation requirements and policies for the TTS business.
- Ensure deal deadlines are met.
- Building relationships around the EMEA Citi branch network with legal counsels and business contacts and looking at improving documentation requirements and flows with the branches.
- Work closely with sales, banking, product managers and operations partners to manage customer expectations and help Citi be the best for its clients.
Job Requirements:
- Comprehensive training will be provided.
- Excellent technical skills (including drafting skills), and analytical ability.
- Previous legal experience of working in a commercial law firm (with a banking/finance seat) or a large financial services orientated organisation is essential.
- Previous negotiation experience is useful but not essential.
- Knowledge of the banking/financial services industry is preferable but not essential.
- Knowledge of standard trade finance products/services (letters of credit, loans etc.) preferable but not essential.
- Strong business judgement and commercial awareness.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
- True self-starter.
- Ability to provide continuous feedback and to regularly follow up on all outstanding issues.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office operating systems.
- Ability to effectively project manage and organise own workload meeting key milestones.
