Job Description:

Support the EHS Lead at site level and pro-actively co-ordinating the business health, safety & environment activities to ensure that the maintenance activities exceed its regulatory, contractual and company obligations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Organise, assign and brief EHS representatives, fire fighters and First aiders and ensure execution
  • Assist in the acquisition of EHS equipment e.g. emergency preparedness equipment, signage, etc.
  • Assist manage risks and hazards in their area
  • Monitor site compliance with EHS policy and procedures and legal requirements
  • Provide advice, information and instruction on site EHS issues
  • Report and facilitate investigation of incidents, injuries and hazards and advice
  • Compile toolbox talks for site and disseminate EHS information
  • Review and analyse injury and incident reports and data. (action item list)
  • Monitor and assess hazardous and unsafe situations personnel safety
  • Carry out EHS Officer inspections
  • Receive briefing from EHS lead and carry out instructions on site
  • Assist in developing injury and incident prevention strategies for site
  • Audit site EHS compliance with regard to organizational and legal EHS requirements
  • Promote EHS awareness
  • Assist in the application and development of EHS procedures

Job Requirements:

  • Fluent in English
  • Grade 12
  • Knowledge of Railway industry is an added advantage
  • National Diploma or BTech in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong inter-personal skill in multi-cultural environment
  • Recognised health and safety qualification (e.g. SAMTRAC)
  • EHS systems implementation and an internal auditors certificate
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Safety.
