Job Description:

As an Accountant II, you will ensure subcontract invoices are complete and in compliance with subcontract general provisions, terms & conditions. Strengthen partnerships with internal/external customers through collaboration on various activities including supplier on-boarding and inquiries, estimation of accruals, and subcontract closeouts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify process pain points, their root causes and potential solutions to address root causes.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships across the Lab.
  • Variance analysis of actual costs vs. accrual. Proactively take necessary steps to reduce variance.
  • Estimate monthly and annual accruals for subcontract costs.
  • Prepare audit packages in support of audit requests.
  • Actively engage and participate on project teams inside and/or outside own organization, activity, project or function.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control environment deviations and exceptions.
  • Periodic reconciliation of subcontractor billing records vs. internal invoicing records.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in evaluation and solutions to problems and determining appropriate solutions.
  • Review and audit subcontract invoices for completion and compliance.
  • Effectively aggregate data and information to help answer questions and/or resolve issues. Recommend action steps for resolution. Make decisions and/or execute.

Job Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree in similar discipline with a minimum of 1 year of related experience.
  • Extensive understanding and wide application of principles, theories, concepts and techniques in Accounting.
  • Knowledge of applicable Laboratory policies and procedures, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to collect and analyze information and problem solve.
  • Experience working with an integrated financial system, preferably Oracle.
  • Broad knowledge of Federal Government Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • A thinker, curious, and pro-active.
  • Proven Excel Skills (minimum Intermediate level).
  • Broad knowledge in one or more related fields of the following areas: Accounting, Accounts Payable, Procure to Pay, FAR Subcontracts, Accruals.
