Job Description:

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our team in support of new current and future projects in the DSN. You will be a member of the Front End Controller Group (333G) and work closely with members of the group and section supporting all phases of the product lifecycle from inception through the end of maturity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • This job requires a multi-disciplinary mindset as the selected candidate will be interfacing with hardware design engineers, system engineers, operations engineers, and maintenance engineers to successfully deliver the software products.
  • Travel to domestic and foreign Deep Space Network complexes in California, Spain, and Australia is expected during delivery and testing efforts. Travel time is not expected to exceed 10%.
  • The candidate will be involved in the entire lifecycle of the software from requirement definition to deployment and maintenance.
  • They will interface with stakeholders, customers, and operations teams in support of both new and ongoing projects
  • The ideal candidate will spend a majority of his/her/their time designing, coding, testing, and documenting control equipment software for various RF microwave assemblies throughout the DSN.
  • These assemblies monitor and control equipment for both uplink and downlink for standard tracking, telemetry, and commanding (TT&C) as well as specialty microwave hardware used for radio astronomy.
  • Equipment might include Radio Frequency (RF) downconverters, high-power amplifiers, and uplink signal generation for producing coding and modulation of commands to spacecraft.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skill for end users issue analysis support.
    Experience with Linux operating systems and knowledge of Linux Kernel.
  • Software engineering skills with strong system debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with a minimum of 6 years of work related experience; or a
  • Master’s degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 4 years of related work experience; or Ph.D. in similar disciplines with a minimum of 2 years of wor related experience.
  • Extensive understanding and wide application of advanced principles, theories, concepts and techniques in software engineering.
  • Experience with various processor architectures for example: ARM, x86, sparc, PIC.
  • Experience with real-time software with multiple hardware and software interfaces.
  • Extensive experience with programming in C and/or C++
