Job Description:
As a Physician Consultant for Lincoln Financial Group you will consult for the Disability Insurance Medical Department. You should have an active clinical practice or clinical teaching appointment, which permits a minimum of 10 hours per week that can be dedicated to this role.
Job Responsibilities:
- Communicate with treating providers as needed to clarify medical information and the treating provider assessments of relevant factors.
- Consultation may occur in a variety of forums, ranging from meetings with Lincoln claim managers and other staff to conducting only record reviews.
- Clinical teaching/mentoring for claim adjudicators, nurses, vocational rehabilitation consultants, and other physicians.
- Review claim files and respond to claim manager questions regarding the available medical information. Claim related questions may include, but are not limited to, assessment of the degree of impairment, restrictions and limitations, prognosis, standards of care, treatment opportunities, and causal and/or contributory medical associations. The scope of inquiry and review does not include making contractual and/or benefit determinations.
- Consult with Lincoln’s Medical Directors and/or relevant Lincoln employees or staff regarding any uncertain issues that may arise in the performance of review activities to ensure appropriate resolution.
- Provide a rationale for opinions that is supported by the standards of care and the peer reviewed medical literature. Describe additional information that if it became available may be useful to further address the questions.
Job Requirements:
- Current unrestricted US medical license
- Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Oncology, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Pulmonology
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Orthopedic Surgery, Sports Medicine, Rheumatology
- Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology
- 5+ years of clinical experience to include clinical teaching
- Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology
- Completion of an approved 3 to 5 year residency program/sub-specialty required fellowship
- MD/DO, degree with current certification by an approved American Specialty/Sub-Specialty Board or
- Internal and Family Medicine
- PhD/PsyD with current certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology, or the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology
