Job Description:

Macy’s is currently seeking a Media Relations Associate, with 5 – 7 years of experience in public relations, who will work with a team to develop and execute media relations plans to promote Macy’s as a style source delivered by a digitally led omnichannel experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proactively collaborates and partners with the Corporate Communications and cross functional teams such as merchandising, legal, HR, marketing, government affairs, risk management, and social media.
  • Recaps media results – weekly, monthly and by project.
  • Identifies and media-trains regional spokespeople to represent Macy’s in the respective markets.
  • Establishes strong, productive relationships with traditional and non-traditional media contacts – in respective media markets as well as cultivates strong relationships with all levels of leadership internally and externally (company and store leadership, civic and non-profit partners).
  • Leverages Macy’s social handles to develop shareable content and follows local social influencers including reporters that we expect engagement online.
  • Develops and implements short and long-term strategies for major regional programs (national merchandise initiatives, corporate giving/cause-related campaigns, new services and store openings) – ultimately generating positive media coverage.
  • Drafts/edits press materials, manages new media content development and pitches for ongoing placements.

Job Requirements:

  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office suite, media monitoring programs and social media channels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • BA/BS in communications-related field, with 5-7 years of experience in public relations, media relations, communications or related area.
  • Proven history of success in working with/pitching reporters; strong contacts at consumer magazine, newspaper, television and online outlets as well as influencers a plus.
  • Effective command of language and writing (communications plans, press materials, executive messaging/presentations, etc.).
  • Background in retail or other consumer business; general knowledge of the department store business a plus.
  • Fluent in Spanish is a plus.
  • Innovative, creative, proactive and confident thinker.
