Job Description:

Macy’s is launching an online Marketplace and we are seeking a Principal, Marketplace Strategy and New Business Development. Reporting directly to the VP of Marketplace, the Principal will be responsible for managing the strategy, strategic planning, and new business development functions for the marketplace both through launch and at scale.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize internal and external knowledge and partnerships to understand, synthesize, and communicate trends, perspectives, and issues that drive material impact to the business
  • Independently lead cross-functional teams in strategy formulation and act as an evangelist for marketplace growth drivers across numerous functions such as Digital, Finance, Marketing, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Stores, Data Sciences and Technology
  • Support the VP, Marketplace in developing the long-range strategy for a high-growth Marketplace business
  • Lead development of new business opportunities and models that provide business growth as well as drive customer and seller satisfaction and experience improvements
  • Craft and deliver key strategic narratives, including business models, strategic frameworks, and presentations to C-Suite executives through effective storytelling
  • Manage strategic planning process to translate long-range strategy into near-term KPIs and identify the high priority business and technical imperatives to achieve those goals

Job Requirements:

  • Able to juggle multiple projects – can identify primary and secondary objectives, prioritize time, and communicate timelines to team members
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university; MBA preferred
  • 3 years at a top-tier strategy consulting firm, or within a corporate strategy function, all with emphasis on retail, e-commerce and/or marketplaces
  • Intellectually curious with strong analytical skills, including demonstrated ability in performing complex data analysis, drawing actionable insights and recommendations, and building strategies against the analysis
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Results-oriented self-starter with a strong track record of accountability and impact across strategy and execution
  • Exceptional written communication, PowerPoint, and presentation skills for diverse audiences
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically
  • 5-8+ years’ total experience in retail, e-commerce and/or marketplaces
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and influencing with or without direct reporting authority
  • Thrives under pressure, balancing multiple workstreams and priorities
