Job Description:

Incumbents will be responsible for working with and coordinating the work schedules and work assignments of a crew of four to six Conservation Corps members based out of Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, Susquehanna, Tuckahoe, Deep Creek Lake, Assateague, Patapsco Valley, Gunpowder Falls and Greenbrier State Parks. The Crew Leader will report directly to and provide assistance to the assigned Park Ranger for the Maryland Conservation Corps (MCC).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate community service projects with corps members and community leaders.
  • Speak to the public, community groups, school groups, organizations, and the media to plan, develop and deliver programs.
  • Lead and serve as a role model to a crew of four to six young adults 17-25 years of age.
  • Submit weekly timecards, progress reports, statistics and other paperwork as required.
  • Teach job and life skills to corps members.
  • Plan and implement daily schedules.
  • Accept responsibility for any assigned equipment and vehicles.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working as part of an AmeriCorps program.
  • Experience working within a national, state, county or local park.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of park management, recreation, education, business administration, forestry, social sciences or a natural resources related field for the required experience.
  • Experience working within with service or campus organizations
  • Five years of experience, one year of experience in forest or park management, recreation, or natural resources management, or preparing, developing or delivering programs that interpret natural, historical, cultural or recreational features and an additional four years of experience in park management, recreation or a natural or cultural resources related field.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of park operations, recreation, education, business administration, forestry, social sciences, history or a natural resources or history related field and one year of experience in forest or park management, recreation, or natural resources management, or preparing, developing or delivering programs that interpret natural, historical, cultural or recreational features for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in management and program clerical and assistance classification or management and program clerical and assistance specialty codes in the general, administrative, clerical, and office services field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
