Job Description:

As a JPL Solar Array Technologist, you will lead technology development efforts, including proposal preparation, laboratory experiments, reporting and publishing results and infusion of technology into flight projects. You will also lead implementation of solar array technology on flight missions, including generation of requirements, design, testing, verification of flight hardware and technical management of procurements.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to manage cost and schedule for development and flight project tasks
  • Ability to provide mentoring/coaching to team members
  • Ability to perform complex and wide-ranging job functions and activities across multiple disciplines
  • Ability to represent the solar array team to external organizations
  • Experience with and extensive knowledge of space environmental testing, including vacuum systems, space radiation, combined environments, plasmas, thermal testing and solar simulation
  • Ph.D. degree in Physics, Applied Physics or related technical field, with typically a minimum of 5 years related experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field with typically a minimum of 7 years related experience
  • Ability to provide team leadership and be accountable for results on projects and assignments, including technical results, budget and schedule
  • Ability to collaborate with power systems and flight systems engineering teams to ensure successful integration of solar arrays into a space system
  • Experience with and extensive knowledge of space photovoltaics
  • Experience leading space photovoltaic engineering teams
