Job Description:

The Mortgage Licensing Attorney will support various departments by providing state and federal regulatory guidance specific to licensing requirements in the mortgage broker industry. This temporary position will advise and work in collaboration with other departments, including the marketing, licensing and operations departments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare various documents addressing regulatory requirements and updates;
  • Implement statutory and regulatory changes by directly interacting with internal licensing, operations and marketing departments;
  • Research and analyze mortgage broker and loan origination laws, regulations, policy statements and legislation;
  • Assure compliance with applicable state and federal law relating to mortgage broker and mortgage loan solicitation activity, including laws and regulations governing licensing, record-keeping, disclosure requirements, continuing education requirements, predatory lending issues and prohibited practices;
  • Work with state regulatory contacts to interpret new requirements and to address outstanding issues;
  • Respond to legislative developments at both the state and federal level to ensure applicability is understood;
  • Review current licensing status in all states to ensure compliance with all state laws, including newly enacted legislation;
  • Identify potential legal or regulatory risks to the business;
  • Make recommendations to solve challenges relating to sales force licensing or other regulatory issues;

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and also as a team member
  • Available to travel and oversee on-site examinations
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong cooperative and professional attitude
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong prioritizing and decision-making skills
  • JD Degree from an accredited law school
  • Member of any state bar association
  • Preferably 2 or more years practicing at a law firm, in-house or at a government agency
  • Flexibility to handle multiple and changing priorities and meet deadlines
