Job Description:
The successful applicant will be involved in the development of new chemical entitities that show in vitro activity as inhibitors of selected bacterial enzymes involved in the mechanisms used by S. aureus to defend itself against the oxidative attacks used by the innate immune system following infection.
Job Responsibilities:
- The specific and major first aim is the design and chemical synthesis of compounds based on the structures of initials leads that have already been identified.
- This will preferably done using a parallel synthesis approach.
- Synthesized compounds will be characterized for their inhibitory activity in vitro, as well as on the target organism.
- Follow-up work will entail characterization by co-crystallography to obtain structural information of the target-ligand interactions.
- Considering the multidisciplinary nature of the project, the preferred incumbent will need to have a diverse set of skills, and be prepared to learn those that he/she might be lacking.
Job Requirements:
- A PhD degree in synthetic organic chemistry, obtained within the last five years (or proof that the requirements for the degree has been satisfied).
- Candidates with PhD degrees in other fields but with appropriate experience might also be considered.
- The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in the target-based synthesis of small organic molecules, and their subsequent characterization.
- Experience in enzyme characterization, including heterologous protein expression, protein purification by IMAC
