Job Description:
Performing sample logging, processing, extraction and storage of specimens and their derivatives. This may require working in a Biosafety Level 3 facility, for
Job Responsibilities:
- Being responsible for ensuring that equipment is safe and maintained in working order;
- Managing orders for equipment and reagents;
- Maintaining REDCap databases related to the research studies, including QC, updating records, and requesting modifications to databases;
- Biobanking of specimens at -80C, -20C as well as in the BIOS (automated biorepository facility);
- Providing assistance with admin-based duties, such as ordering, preparing sample packs, etc,;
- Paying periodic, semi-regular visits to our mobile laboratory and recruitment sites within Cape Town.
- Contributing to the overall activities of the research team and division as required, including ordering and performing financial and general laboratory administration;
- Writing and updating standard operating procedures;
Job Requirements:
- A strong background in Life Sciences/Laboratory techniques which could include nucleic acids extraction and measurement;
- The ability to work flexi working hours for the standard 8 hour working day to ensure specimens received can be processed without delay. This will not be
- At least an Honours degree in Molecular Biology, Human Genetics, or equivalent in a related field;
- The ability to work independently as well as within a project team environment;
- The ability to communicate in English openly, clearly, and rapidly, both verbally and in writing;
